You might be wondering where you can go after formal in order to keep the party going. The official after-party will be held at ARAKA, which is just across the street from the Ritz. They will be giving us the following drink specials:
$5 ABSOLUT
$2 Domestic Beer
$3 Import Beer
So when formal is over, keep your dancing shoes on, head across the street, and let the good times roll...

Arrive Alive: Safe Transportation Options
To build on Allison's transportation post below...The Olin Formal is a festive night, and will include an open bar, and it is IMPORTANT to think about how you're going to get home after the night o'fun.
Cab Service: The Ritz is in downtown Clayton, so it won't be expensive to get a cab ride home. The address is 100 Carondelet Plaza. Cab drivers know it.
The front desk might be able to help you, but just so they're not swamped at the end of the night, program some cab numbers into your phone. 1) St. Louis County Cab - 314-993-TAXI (8294); 2) Laclede Cab Co - 314-652-8294; 3) ABC Cab Company - 314-725-2111
Car Service: Dependable Designated Drivers, a company created by current law student Jake Galperin, is a service that allows customers to have their own cars driven home at the end of the night, so that everyone gets home safe and sound, for cheaper than taking a cab. Membership is free and available at http://www.dependabledd.com. Please be sure to register online and make your reservations as soon as possible.

What Should I Wear?
What does black tie optional mean? Most plainly put, it means that men and women should wear formal attire.
Tuxedos are not required for men, but encouraged. Suits are perfectly acceptable as well. It has been estimated that approximately 25-30% of men wore tuxedos last year.
Dresses are the most common option for women, however, traditional formal attire from all cultures is encouraged and appreciated! Both long and short dresses are fine.
No one is expected to go out and purchase western attire for this event. More importantly, the point of the Olin Formal is for everyone to get together and have a good time. Show your Olin pride and register today!

Transportation & Logistics!
Hey Everyone -
I'd like to briefly explain the simple logistics of parking at the Ritz. If you choose to self-park your car in the garage, the fee is $5 for the entire evening. After parking, follow the signs to the"Ballroom Entrance" and we will see you there.
If, however, you would like to valet your vehicle at the front of the hotel, the service will cost you $7+any tip you care to give. It is worth noting that there is some available outdoor parking on the small streets surrounding the hotel, but this will likely be hard to come by.
For those of you being dropped off by cab or other means, the Ritz address is 100 Carondelet Plaza. This seems to be well-known to area drivers, so there should be minimal confusion.
And finally, I would like to emphasize the use of designated drivers, carpooling, and taxis. Four hours of open bar and an after party will ensure that everyone gets their fair share, but safety for this event is paramount. Please use good judgment in planning ahead for the use of a designated driver or if not the Ritz will be more than happy to call a cab.
It’s going to be a great night!!

#1. Do I Eat Before Formal? #2. Do I Pre-Game For Formal?
#1. Dinner is not provided at formal, what we are having is categorized as a "heavy reception". There will be a pasta bar, a carvery station with a roast, and hors d'oeuvres. We do recommend that everyone have something to eat before coming to formal, because there is not enough for every guest to have a whole meal. The food is more designed to give you a little something to munch on with your drinks. For those of you who might be coming later on in the evening, we can't guarantee that there will be any food remaining when you arrive, so plan accordingly.
#2. It is advisable that you do not pre-game for formal. We have a top shelf open bar from 7-11, and there will most likely be an after party nearby. You have plenty of time to drink at formal itself, and there will be a lot of faculty and staff there, so it wouldn't be too smart to show up sloppy. Remember kids, a night out is a marathon, not a sprint.

Date Optional
Many people are asking, "do I need to bring a date to the Olin Formal?" The simple answer is no. This event is a unique opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to socialize in a classy, yet casual setting. This event is meant for Olin students and space is limited, so guests are welcome but we ask that you don't just bring a friend for the heck of it.
A ticket for a non-Olin guest is $30, and that comes with all the benefits the Olin students gets (food, open bar, etc...). Any questions or concerns feel free to let us know!
